FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Wellfleet Fire Department Responds to Deck Fire

Wellfleet, MA: On 9-14-25, 0738hrs, the Wellfleet Fire Department was dispatched for a report of a possible brush fire. Upon arrival, crews found an unattached deck in close proximity to the home.

The incident commander, Chief Joseph Cappello, ordered the initial response team from Engine 1 to deploy a 1-3/4" attack line to knock down the fire on the deck quickly. A second engine was brought in to establish a water supply from a nearby hydrant and support suppression operations.

The fire was quickly brought under control. An ambulance from Truro was requested to the scene to provide firefighter rehabilitation. Crews completed overhaul operations, ensured all hot spots were extinguished, and picked up hose lines before clearing the scene.

**Public Safety Notice:**

The fire was determined to have started from an unattended barrel fire on a deck.

Residents are reminded:

-Contained fires (firepits, chimeneas, or other covered containers) are not permitted on decks.

-If you are conducting a legal fire, it is essential to ensure that it is completely extinguished before leaving it unattended.
