Wellfleet public safety officials conducted a test of a new telephone notification system used to alert the public in the event of an emergency. The test was held on Monday, November 17. All listed phone numbers in Wellfleet should have received a brief test message.
The Rapid Alert System is operated by the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office and uses automated telephone calls to send a message to a specific geographic area.
If you didn’t receive the test message, you should contact the Sheriff’s office to make sure that your phone number is registered with the system.
Those with unlisted, cell phone, or voice-over-internet phone numbers can add their numbers to the system by filling out a form or by calling the Sheriff’s Office at 508-563-4479. The list of phone numbers is updated quarterly by the Sheriff’s Office.
To download the form to register unlisted, cell or voice-over-internet phone numbers, click here.
Or you can pick up the form at the Wellfleet Police and Fire Departments, or at the Wellfleet Senior Center. Remember that you only need to fill out this form if you have an unlisted, cell, or VOIP number that you want to receive alert messages.
